This is a painting of my neighbors. They are like family.

It is also a portrait of modern life as I see it today in Detroit. I chose to use two colors: a reddish tone to relate to the human body, and light blue to resemble the glow of computers, cell phones, and TVs. For me, this emanating blue light is similar to the light of the outdoors, but often replaces outdoor light as we spend more time in front of these devices. In this scene, the blue glow touches each of the person's bodies because today we are all touched by technology.

In this scene, Zoey, Zach, and their grandfather play with his phone while their mother makes cookies in the background. I carefully crafted this composition based several snapshots I took while at their house.
